ABOUT THE PITCH CLINIC

Why the Pitch Clinic
Over the years, we have seen that many journalists have strong stories but struggle with where to pitch, how to frame the idea, or how to present it to editors. The Pitch Clinic was created to give them a place to pitch, ask questions, and learn from editors.

Goals of the Pitch Clinic
These sessions help journalists build confidence in pitching their stories, sharpen their work through clear editorial guidance, and open doors to future publishing opportunities. They also strengthen relationships between journalists and media houses while amplifying voices from underrepresented communities.
WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED
Through ADVANCE, our collaborative news agency, we have built a community of more than 500 journalists, writers, and storytellers across Africa and beyond. Together, we explore stories connected to social justice, gender, conflict, disability, climate change, migration, the economy, and other issues that are often overlooked.
As part of this work, the Pitch Clinic offers journalists the chance to pitch directly to editors and media professionals. They also receive real-time feedback that helps them strengthen their ideas. In some cases, pitches from the clinic have been commissioned and published.
We have partnered with organisations such as More To Her Story. One of the pitches from the clinic led to a co-published story titled “The Women Filling Rural Zimbabwe’s Maternal Care Gap.”
PARTNERS FEEDBACK
Editors have also shared that the clinic gives them access to stories and perspectives they might not have come across on their own. Here is a link to our REPORT
