Coltan Kubiangha

Coltan Kubiangha is a Nigerian Photojournalist and Visual Storyteller whose practice is focused on documenting Nigerians living with visible differences through portraiture, especially from genetic conditions such as Neurofibromatosis and Trichoepithelioma, as a way to create awareness with intent to improve the manner in which people with these conditions are perceived and treated by society. Their practice also focuses significantly on the documentation of indigenous cultures in Nigeria as a means of creating archival visual history of these cultures for the future, while increasing connection with the culture and traditions in the present. Their photographs from the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria have been published in Aljazeera English (2021). They have been interviewed by Oprah Daily Magazine (2022). Their work has been spotlighted by Everyday Everywhere, and RADR Africa. Coltan is a member of Black Women Photographers, a global organization of Black Women and Nonbinary Photographers and the African Photojournalism Database, a joint project of the World Press Photo Foundation and Everyday Africa.
